FAQ'S

BE IN THE KNOW

Welcome to the Semi Permanent Makeup Help Centre. I have compiled a list of common questions to answer any queries you may have regarding semi permanent makeup or scalp micropigmentation. If you still can’t find the answer you are looking for, please get in touch.

DOES SEMI PERMANENT MAKEUP HURT?

Everyone has a different pain threshold, therefore this is different for every client. However in my experience, the majority of clients are surprised at how little treatments hurt. The pigment sits less than one layer deep into the skin, as oppose to other forms of pigmentation; such as a traditional tattoo, which sits 3 layers deep into the skin. I am a fully qualified Act Fast topical anaesthetic administrator, which is the only adrenaline controlled pain relief available in the UK, therefore I can legally use the strongest anesthetic available within the industry.

HOW MUCH DOES PERMANENT MAKEUP COST?

The cost of a treatment varies dependent on what area I am working on and what technique is required, this will be fully determined on your consultation, as I assess what work is suitable. If you would like more information on pricing, please visit my price list page or contact me and I will get back to you with a quote.
Your initial consultation and patch test is free, however if you decide you would like to go ahead and book a treatment, I require a £40.00 deposit to secure your appointment.

DO YOU SHAVE MY EYEBROWS OFF?

This question is often asked and my answer would always be absolutely not. It is not necessary to remove the natural shape of the eyebrows. Semi Permanent Makeup should enhance the natural shape of the brow and balance your features, to achieve this fully, the eyebrows must not be shaved off.

DOES SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION HURT?

Scalp Micropigmentation is pain free, I only work extremely shallow into the scalp, therefore you can barely feel the treatment. Some people are more sensitive that others, however in general most clients find the treatment pain free or often relaxing.

HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE?

A consultation and patch test can take up to one hour and the initial treatment can take up to two hours, depending on the treatment you are having done. The second stage of your treatment can also take up to two hours, depending on how well your skin has held the pigment on the initial visit. Remember everyone, therefore timescales may vary.

CAN I HAVE A TREATMENT DONE IF I HAVE ALREADY HAD PERMANENT MAKEUP DONE PREVIOUSLY?

More often than not, the area can be freshened up, however this will be determined during a consultation, where an evaluation of the previous pigment will most likely determine whether a fresh pigment can be blended over the same area.During consultation we will also asses whether correction is necessary.

HOW LONG WILL THE TREATMENT TAKE TO HEAL?

This is dependent on which treatment you are having done as different parts of the face heal differently. However, generally the area starts healing after a couple of days and can typically be expected to heal fully after three weeks. The second part of the treatment is done once the healing process is 100% complete, therefore this would be booked in typically between 4-8 weeks after your initial visit.

HOW LONG WILL THE SEMI PERMANENT MAKEUP LAST FOR?

This can vary depending on lifestyle. For example, if you spend a lot of time in the sun, this will almost certainly fade the pigment quicker than if you are rarely exposed to intense UV rays. Any medication changes can also determine the lasting effects of the treatment. The age of the client and the type skin type, such as oily, can also variate the fade of pigment. However, I would say as a rough guide, generally, depending on the treatment, this will need a refresh every 12 months.

IS SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR ME?

Scalp Micropigmentation is an ever growing popular solution to Male Pattern Baldness and Female Thinning. Hair loss, whether its genetic or medical, effects millions of individuals and can be extremely damaging to self image and confidence. Scalp Micropigmentation can give an individual back their confidence by discreetly building density and a tailored hair line through mimiced hair follicles created through intricate dot work using a needle and organic inks. For men, other than wearing a hair piece, hats or painful surgery, the options are limited when it comes to a long term solution. This is where scalp micropigmentation (SMP) comes into its own, a perfect close shaved hair finish, can be created in a matter of sessions to get rid of any trace of hair loss and is completely pain free.

For women, hair extensions, integrated hair pieces and wigs are the only solutions to thinning hair. Dependent on the stage of hair loss, these methods can add to the problem and create further hair loss through traction alopecia. SMP can eradicate the appearance of thinning hair on the top of the scalp, again by creating a pattern of mimiced hair follicles.

This method can often stimulate natural hair growth, as it does not damage the scalp in any way. If you want to ditch the wigs and gain a long term, natural, low maintenance, solution for hair loss, scalp micropigmentation is the way to go.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPMU AND MICROBLADING?

The difference is the device used to create hairstrokes. For example, a machine creates hairstrokes with a needle at a set speed, where as microblading is a hand held disposable scalpel that creates hair storkes with a blade, both give the same finish, however digital machine microblading, typical lasts longer as it manipulates the skin differently and can be used on a variety of skin types, were as Microblading is not suitable for every client. Microblading can only be used on the eyebrow area and can not be used on lips or eyes.

CAN I HAVE SEMI PERMANENT MAKEUP IF I HAVE HAD BOTOX OR FILLERS?

Yes, you can have both. Timescales do vary between treatments dependent on whether you are having permanent makeup before or aesthetic treatments.
